The roll is always in front of the shade, and the cords are visible. Cord color is selected to coordinate with the fabric.

The lined valance frames the shade nicely. It also hides the lifting system, which would otherwise be visible since it is at the front of the shade.
The roll might slightly bow between the cords, depending on the shade width and the number of cords used. This is the nature of the fabric and is a classic feature of this style.

A Roll Up Shade made in one of the thicker materials may have a very large roll, perhaps 4" or more depending upon the height of the shade. These fabrics have a large roll diameter symbol on the swatch label.
Due to the size of the roll diameter, a Roll Up shade never fits behind the valance. The lifting system is completely concealed by the valance, and the roll hangs below.

This style is unlined, and lining options are not available. Due to the nature of the product, Roll Up shades cannot be lined.
